Hey. I know you are struggling, and I just wanted to say you are not alone. Through this week alone I experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The transition from Highschool to college is very scary. We go from living with family and socializing with friends we grew up with, to going to a new school, many times miles away from where we are born, is taxing. Both mentally and physically which can impact the way we go through daily lives. This post is to discuss college life emotional challenges and go over ways to help with it. College mental health is an important thing.
Impact of College on Mental Health
It is not good. For one you can see your performance on various tasks like speaking, presenting, socializing, and all in all studying to be negatively affected since you can’t think straight. You can’t concentrate. After speaking with other college students I feel for them and I see how hard the transition truly is. We compare ourselves with others, not realizing that they do not have it all figured out. Most of them are just putting up a front anyway, just fake.
Emotional Rollercoasters are a big thing in college. I’ve and others found ourselves so wonderfully happy and then in seconds so extremely sad and depressed. I never experienced something in my life like this ever. Remember to keep that in mind when you are talking to someone in college, that their mental health is struggling. Heck I’d argue college for the first year is a struggle period altogether trying to learn how to manage work-life balance. I mean I look around at lunch tables in college and I see people sitting alone! I feel for them. We must look forward to the emotional wellbeing of people in college.
Seek Help (ASAP)
DONT LET FEELINGS LINGER. Get. Help. If. You. Need. It. Or even if you don’t think you need it. Talk with a friend. Talk with a family member you haven’t spoken with. Look at the college’s website that will provide you with resources in order to succeed so we could beat these mood swings for college freshmen. (30 Day Challenge)
Become A Rock
Be strong, become very very strong. That no great evil, great sadness, can deter you from who you are as a person. We have the gifts to become superheroes. To defeat mental health, by not running from it but by facing it head on. Together we’ll become our best selves SO NO COLLEGE STRESS, ANXIETY, HARDSHIPS, CAN DETER US. EVEN IN COLLEGE FRESHMEN TO SENIORS WE HAVE THE POWER. I BELIEVE WE CAN DO THIS.
Conclusion:
Don’t lose yourself, don’t let struggling college mental health situations pull you down. We are powerful, we are strong. Everyone in college will experience mood swings albeit here now or there later. Its not “when” we are going to dealt with this mental health crisis. Its more so “when” we are. However a even greater idea is “how”, how we deal with this situations that are inevitable is the real key here. Have a strong foundation with your practices of self love, having a great support group, and being strong, makes the impossible. Possible.
I love you, James
